DR ANNETTE FLAHERTY

Annette joined the patent profession in 2001 whilst completing her PhD thesis.  Annette has a PhD and 1st class BEng honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, both obtained following completion of a technical apprenticeship in the earthmoving sector.  As a patent and design attorney Annette has experience working with and advising a range of clients including large multinational companies, SMEs and individuals about UK and European patent and unregistered and registered design protection. Her technical area of specialism is general/mechanical engineering technology, which includes oil and gas technology, renewable energy technology, automotive technology, plumbing technology, optical fibre technology and tobacco technology.


DAVID KESTON

David understands the strategic value of patents to his clients: multinationals, SMEs and academia alike. His work for those clients in the drafting and prosecution of International, European, UK and US patent applications spans many areas of technology: specialising in computer networks, imaging, photonics, telecommunications systems, as well as consumer electronics and mechanical subject areas.  David also advises in potentially contentious matters including: licensing, patent landscaping, ‘freedom to use’ and infringement issues.  David is a member of the Litigation Committee of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).


MIKE MCPHERSON

EUROPEAN PATENT ATTORNEY

Mike is a European Patent Attorney and a Chartered Chemist.  Mike works across a wide range of technology including mechanical devices, oil and gas, renewable energy, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food and drink, and manufacturing process technology in general.  Mike’s day-to-day work includes drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications and advising clients on filing strategy. Experience includes acting for clients at opposition and appeal hearings in front of the European Patent Office.


ANDY CAULFIELD

PATENT ASSOCIATE

Andy is a Part-Qualified Patent Attorney and is working towards qualification as a Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney. He has a first class Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Strathclyde University, and completed his Masters project on mechanical stress modelling at Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan. Andy also holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London. Andy works on a variety of technologies including mechanical devices, consumer products, medical devices, oil and gas exploration technology, automotive technology and aerospace technology. Before joining Creation IP in March 2020, Andy worked offshore internationally as a Drilling Engineer at a multi-national oilfield exploration company, and then started training to become a Patent Attorney at a Tier 1 private practice firm in London.

John is an experienced  UK and European Patent Attorney accustomed to dealing with a wide range of technologies including especially electronics, physics and computing. John believes in the Vital Spark ™ – the clear and complete communication of difficult ideas between the inventors, their business managers and investors, and the patent examiners, lawyers and judges who rule upon them. Since 2015 John has worked as a consultant to Creation IP, involved in drafting and prosecution, as well as oppositions and litigation support.

ANDREW COUTTIE

TRADE MARK ASSOCIATE

Andrew is currently training to become a Trade Mark Attorney and divides his time between fulfilling a support role and assisting Attorneys with a broad range of legal matters. Holding an Ordinary Degree in Business Law from the University of the West of Scotland, and an LLB Law Degree (Post Graduate) from the University of Strathclyde, Andrew, comes from a strong academic background with a legal focus. Previously, he has worked in the insurance arm of one of the “Big Four” accounting firms, completed a graduate internship in project management at Renfrewshire Council, where he distinguished himself and was awarded the coveted “Graduate Intern of the Year”. Having joined Creation IP in December 2017, he has assumed an ever-growing list of responsibilities while striving to carve out a career as an IP professional.

KAREN MCCARTNEY

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

Karen is the Operations Director for Creation IP Ltd. in charge of all operational aspects of the business. She has worked within the UK IP profession for 30 years gaining a wealth of formalities knowledge and experience and is recognised across the UK profession as a leader in her field.  Karen has contributed to the build and development of multiple docketing systems.


SIOBHAN INGLIS

IP Manager

Siobhan is a Qualified CITMA Trade Mark Paralegal and CIPA Patent Administrator who joined Creation IP in 2016. Having worked in IP since 2003, Siobhan has gained a wealth of experience in patent, trade mark and design administration; records, formalities and renewals; with particular expertise in creating and implementing procedures and processes. Siobhan is responsible for overseeing the Patent and Trade Mark administration team at Creation IP and is currently studying towards a Certificate of Higher Education in Business Management.


DOROTHY GORMLEY

IP MANAGER

Dorothy is responsible for management of our EP Validation and Renewal teams. With over 30 years’ IP experience, Dorothy began her IP life with a leading Australian IP firm before returning to Scotland in 2000 to work with Marks & Clerk LLP and joining Creation IP in May 2019. Dorothy also successfully completed both the CIPA Patent Administrator and CITMA Trade Mark Administrator courses.
