John is a Chartered and European Patent and Trade Mark Attorney who’s technical expertise lies in electronics and particularly in the field of software, Internet and business method patents both in Europe and the US. He has considerable experience of proceedings before the European Patent Office, including oppositions and appeals and also has experience in litigation both in the UK and the USA. During his practice over more than 30 years, he has acted for many different clients on a wide spectrum of intellectual property matters, ranging from prosecuting and managing extensive patent portfolios for corporations to guiding and assisting start-up companies to develop the necessary valuable intellectual property assets to build their business.

Annette joined the patent profession in 2001 whilst completing her PhD thesis. Annette has a PhD and 1st class BEng honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, both obtained following completion of a technical apprenticeship in the earthmoving sector. As a patent and design attorney Annette has experience working with and advising a range of clients including large multinational companies, SMEs and individuals about UK and European patent and unregistered and registered design protection. Her technical area of specialism is general/mechanical engineering technology, which includes oil and gas technology, renewable energy technology, automotive technology, plumbing technology, optical fibre technology and tobacco technology.
DAVID KESTON

David understands the strategic value of patents to his clients: multinationals, SMEs and academia alike. His work for those clients in the drafting and prosecution of International, European, UK and US patent applications spans many areas of technology: specialising in computer networks, imaging, photonics, telecommunications systems, as well as consumer electronics and mechanical subject areas. David also advises in potentially contentious matters including: licensing, patent landscaping, ‘freedom to use’ and infringement issues. David is a member of the Litigation Committee of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).
MIKE McPHERSON

Mike is a European Patent Attorney and a Chartered Chemist. Mike works across a wide range of technology including mechanical devices, oil and gas, renewable energy, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food and drink, and manufacturing process technology in general. Mike’s day-to-day work includes drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications and advising clients on filing strategy. Experience includes acting for clients at opposition and appeal hearings in front of the European Patent Office.

John is a Chartered and European Patent Attorney accustomed to dealing with a wide range of technologies including especially electronics, physics and computing. Since 2015 John has worked as a consultant to Creation IP, involved in drafting and prosecution, as well as oppositions and litigation support.

KAREN MCCARTNEY
OPERATIONS DIRECTOR
Karen McCartney is the Operation Director for Creation IP Ltd. She is a qualified CIPA (Patent) and CITMA (Trademark) Administrator and has worked within the UK IP profession for 30 years gaining a wealth of formalities knowledge and experience. Karen is recognised across the UK profession in her field and has contributed to the build and development of multiple docketing systems. Karen is responsible for the Patent and Trademark paralegal and administration teams covering all aspects of IP prosecution before the European Patent Office and the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office from filing through examination to grant.
TONY HAMILL
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Having spent over 20 years advising a range of clients on business, particularly at start up and early-stage growth, Tony brings a wealth of experience to his role with Creation IP. Tony continues to assist start-up companies through the University of Strathclyde’s Inspire Supporters Programme (Formerly Strathclyde Enterprise Partners) of which he was one of the original members. He has both worked and delivered consultancy for a range of organisations including The University of Strathclyde, Business Link London, The Scottish Institute for Enterprise, Business Gateway, and Scottish Enterprise. Tony is also a co-founder of Asura Financial Technologies Limited, a provider of cutting-edge software solutions to industry.
